Summary of the lecture with Björn Nordberg:
“Energy left AFTER work”
Working in medtech is meaningful – but also demanding.
During the lecture “Energy left AFTER work”, you gained insights and practical tools to better understand stress, why recovery is essential, and how to create more energy and resilience – even after a long and intense workday.
What is stress?
Stress isn’t something “wrong” – it’s the body’s built-in alert system. It kicks in to protect us and boost our performance when needed. Your heart beats faster, muscles charge up, and focus narrows.
The problem comes when this system stays on for too long or is triggered when it’s not needed. That’s when we burn more energy than we restore, which over time leads to fatigue, brain fog, irritability, low mood – and eventually, exhaustion.
The key isn’t to avoid stress – it’s to build in recovery.
Stress & recovery – getting body and brain back in balance
We function best when the body shifts naturally between the “fight or flight” system (sympathetic nervous system) and the “rest and digest” system (parasympathetic nervous system).
When that balance is lost – especially from too little recovery – the effects start showing:
- Trouble sleeping
- Poor concentration
- Increased pain sensitivity
- Weakened immune system
- Lower motivation and joy
Recovery isn’t about “doing nothing” – it’s about giving the brain and body what they need to reset.
Early warning signs to watch for
Stress shows up differently for different people. But some early signals are common:
- You have trouble falling asleep or sleep restlessly
- You feel drained, even after resting
- You withdraw from social activities
- You stop doing things you enjoy
- You become more irritable or impatient
- Your mind keeps spinning, even during downtime
Recognizing these signals early is key – the sooner you act, the easier it is to regain balance.
SMIRRS-B – your daily recovery toolkit
To make recovery concrete and doable, we introduced the SMIRRS-B model – seven building blocks that help you recharge day-to-day:
- Sleep – the foundation for mental and physical recovery
Tip: Create a “soft landing” at night. Don’t go straight from high activity to bed – give your brain time to wind down first. - Meals – the fuel your body needs to stay energized
Tip: Aim for three main meals + supportive snacks. Regularity is more important than perfection. - Nothing – moments when the brain gets to rest
Tip: Give yourself micro-breaks without screens, noise, or pressure. Just be – even for one minute. - Movement – supports the body to keep going
Tip: Think “support” not “performance.” Short walks, light strength work or gentle yoga are enough. - Fun – the things that make life easier to carry
Tip: Protect small doses of joy – music, laughter, hobbies – even when time feels tight. - Social support – managing on your own, together with others
Tip: Quality over quantity. A safe connection with just one person can make a big difference. - Break after work – the ability to switch off
Tip: Build a wind-down routine on your way home – change clothes, listen to music, or jot down the day’s thoughts.
Recovery isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity.
It allows you to keep showing up with care, presence and professionalism – both at work and at home.

Kom ihåg: Återhämtning är inte en lyx. Det är en förutsättning för att du ska kunna fortsätta ge omsorg, professionalism och närvaro – både på jobbet och hemma.

he book: “What we never talk about”
By Björn Nordberg
This book is about what it’s like to be a man – on the inside.
Not the role, the expectations, or the image.
But the reality of being a human being in a male body, with emotions, struggles, pressure, relationships – and often, silence.
It’s for men who are tired.
Men who don’t recognize themselves anymore.
Men who’ve hit the wall – or are on their way there.
But also for those around them: partners, friends, parents, kids, colleagues.
This book breaks the silence.
It gives words to what so many carry alone – and offers a way forward that’s real, human, and possible.
If the lecture struck a chord, the book can take you deeper.
You are not alone – and you don’t have to figure it out all by yourself.
